What’s normal after this procedure?
- Numbness and tingling immediately after the procedure is common, due to the anesthetic in the filler gel.
- A dull ache and tenderness over the treated areas can be present for 48-72 hours following the procedure.
- Mild, non-painful swelling can last for up to 2 weeks.
- Bruising is usually visible initially, can increase over the following day then slowly fade over the next 7-14 days.
How do I protect my results and reduce side effects?
- For 48 hours, you should avoid exposure to UV light and heat, such as sauna, steam, sun beds, hot showers, and strenuous exercise.
- Keep the area cool with a cold compress, but avoid ice due to the possibility of injury.
- Try to avoid unnecessary pressure over the treated areas for 24 hours.
- Avoid facial massage or skin resurfacing until area is fully healed.
- Do not apply make-up for approximately 6 hours unless it is mineral-based.
- Avoid Ibuprofen, Aspirin, or Naproxen pain medication, as these can cause blood thinning and increase bruising. Tylenol is ok if not contraindicated by your physician.
- Wash your hands immediately post-procedure and do not touch your face in the areas injected for 6 hours.
- Wear sunscreen every day!
